Electrical circuitry re-imagined as the Liberty Bell raises the question of whether modern technology advances or hinders human freedoms—or maybe does both.
New Liberty Bell
“The great revelation about working in virtual space is that suddenly absolutely anyplace can be your canvas. You start to give much more thought to the art’s relationship to its context and how the same work might be interpreted very differently depending on where it is.”
Artist Statement
My creative process begins with my love of science. I always attempt to reveal in my work something about the scientific process and our relationship to it. I try to encourage viewers to think about the rules by which science operates and the understanding it produces and how that affects us individually.
My work shows human figures or an object of human scale in an indefinite, unexplored kind of space. Also in that space are forms that are in some way rule-governed, forms whose dimensions can be specified by an algorithm, like geometric shapes or electrical circuits. I hope that the viewer will think about the complexity and elegance of the algorithmic forms and how they work together and how they interact with humans.
